AMWA convenes sector experts and thought leaders from across the country for its highly anticipated 2022 Executive Management Conference today in Savannah, Ga. This morning kicks off with an interactive workshop from Dr. Mabel Miguel, an acclaimed professor at the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School and a top-rated faculty instructor for the Water and Wastewater Leadership Center. She will provide attendees with proven approaches and actions to spearhead organizational change.

During its awards luncheon, AMWA will honor eight water systems for excellence in utility management.

The 2022 AMWA Sustainable Water Utility Management Award winners are:

  • Coachella Valley Water District;
  • Fort Wayne City Utilities;
  • Fort Worth Water; and
  • San Antonio Water System.

The winners of the 2022 AMWA Platinum Award for Utility Excellence include:

  • Orange County Water District and
  • Seattle Public Utilities.

AMWA will present its 2022 Gold Award for Exceptional Utility Performance to:

  • Cape Fear Public Utility Authority and
  • City of Irving Water Utilities.

Monday wraps up with a panel providing perspectives on ways to define organizational culture, implement culture assessments, establish best practices for increased staff engagement and loyalty, and incorporate employees into utility recruitment efforts.

An executive leadership panel opens for a power-packed program on Tuesday with a hearty discussion on environmental justice. Panelists will share their experiences with implementing environmental justice initiatives at their utilities and provide advice to attendees on how to get started on their own programs. Director of Houston Water and AMWA Board Secretary Yvonne Forrest will moderate the panel, which includes Tad Bohannon, Chief Executive Officer, Central Arkansas Water; Michael Johnson, General Manager, Birmingham Water Works Board; and Yosef Kebede, Bureau Head, Bureau of Water and Wastewater Baltimore City Department of Public Works.
