The water sector is navigating several open public comment periods on proposed rules affecting drinking water systems, so all AMWA members are invited to join the association’s monthly Regulatory Subcommittee meeting this week to get the latest insights on where things stand and to provide input that will help shape upcoming AMWA comments.

The Regulatory Subcommittee will meet by Zoom at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 2. Much of the discussion will focus on EPA’s recently announced proposed revisions to the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations for PFAS, which include a recission of standards for several “Hazard Index” PFAS, as well as a pathway for water systems to request a two-year compliance extension for the drinking water standards for PFOA and PFOS. AMWA is currently developing comments on the two proposals, which are due by July 20, so members on the call will be invited to share their perspectives and suggestions to inform AMWA’s comments.

Other topics expected to be covered during the call include EPA’s proposed PFAS destruction and disposal guidance, a proposal from the Federal Aviation Administration related to drone operations around critical infrastructure facilities, and EPA’s proposed Sixth Contaminant Candidate List.

If you wish to attend the meeting but are not currently on the Regulatory Subcommittee roster, contact Jessica Evans, AMWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs. Notes from previous subcommittee and working group meetings can also be accessed online by AMWA members.

And AMWA members are invited to follow the status of pending regulatory proposals through the association’s online Regulatory Tracker.

Staff for AMWA member utilities may join any of AMWA’s policy-focused subcommittees and working groups by adding themselves to the roster through the association’s Member Portal. If you need assistance, contact AMWA’s Hayden Maclachlan at [email protected].
